Cieli grigi, temperature rigide, ma la primavera nel cuore.

Dolce come l'indugiare, amaro come l'incertezza.

Delle righe che, si sa, fanno sempre primavera.

Ancora una volta, sono distante dal chiasso delle settimane della moda.
Circondata da post-it, il mio organizer a stampa floreale vivente di vita propria, divisa tra una conf-call con l'India e l'ultimo e-blast per la zona DACH, devo dire che non é difficile.

Troppo distanti, queste sfilate, dalla vita vera. Ma ormai anche dal sogno.

E cosi' eccomi. Molto meno ragazza alla moda, e molto più assetata di vita, di sogni, e di emozioni vere.


EN. Once again, I find myself far away from FW's madding crowd.
Surrounded by post-its, my floral-print organizer living a life of its own, making time between a conference call with India and the latest e-blast for the DACH zone, it couldn't really be otherwise.
The catwalks are so far from real life, nowadays. And -dare I say it- from dreams, too.
So here I am. Slightly less hungry for fashion, and slightly more thirsty for life, dreams, and true emotions.

Vorrei poter soffiare via questa spessa coltre di ghiaccio e neve che attanaglia il Belgio da giorni.

Che passato il 6 gennaio la neve non interessa a nessuno.

E' solo quando nevica che ci si rende conto quanto veramente piova in Belgio. Tanto. Davvero.

Vorrei almeno potermela godere con calma, osservando le piccole geometrie riflesse sui vetri della mia finestra. Potrei riconciliarmici, se mi fosse data l'occasione di studiare il fenomeno da una posizione sicura.

Evitando di rischiare la faccia (e la vita) ad ogni passo.

Un maglione caldo e assimmetrico, di quelli con le trecce, e dal rassicurante 100% lana. Questo firmato Massimo Dutti, e comprato in un pomeriggio passato a cercare qualcosa che non si sa.

E dei biker boots, quelli veri. Quelli, e non ho paura a dirlo, che mi accompagnano dagli anni delle superiori. Quelli che hanno quasi tanti inverni sulle spalle che io dita sulle mani. Quelli comprati ai saldi da Benetton da una ragazzina di 17 anni che voleva compiacere la mamma. 

E ha scoperto un mondo.

Scarponcini come quelli che la mamma mi legava la mattina prima di andare a scuola. Di quelli così odiosi da allacciare. Di quelli che ti eri ripromessa mai avresti posseduto. E invece.

Un maglione caldo, candido, dal taglio semplice ma con un tocco in più. Come dovrebbero essere tutti i maglioni: perfetti.

Una giacca, per puro capriccio.

Quelle ballerine dalla stampa leopardata così 2010 (ma in fondo così au goût du jour), che già anticipo saranno il valore aggiunto di quelle mattine in cui un jeans, un maglione oversize e via.

Un abito so Sixties, dal taglio impeccabilmente svasato e con una stampa che credevo di odiare. Un'altro dei miei non sia mai. Ma le regole, anche quelle che ci si auto-impone, son fatte per essere infrante.

Del pizzo. Perché di si. 

Perché sotto a tutti quegli strati, sotto a tutta quella lana, c'è ancora un cuore che batte.

There is real beauty at Lyme ♥ Lyme Regis

"So much novelty and beauty! I have travelled so little, that every fresh place would be interesting to me; but there is real beauty at Lyme; and in short," with a faint blush at some recollections, "altogether my impressions of the place are very agreeable."

The Cobb a Lyme Regis é entrato di diritto nei miei luoghi del cuore. Si é fatto strada tra forti venti e onde violente. Tra spruzzi di acqua salata e sole abbagliante. Tra passeggiate a caccia di fossili (Lyme é nota come gioiello della Jurassic Coast) e le nuvole disegnate dal latte in una tazza di té. Tra le pagine di The French Lieutenant Woman e di Persuasion. Ogni ciottolo, ogni granello di sabbia e goccia di acqua é diventato un tassello del dipinto che era già cosi' vivo nella mia immaginazione.

E' un lunedi' mattina grigio e inclemente, qui a Bruxelles. E io ho bisogno di continuare a sognare.

EN. The Cobb at Lyme Regis has rightfully made its way among the places that speak to my heart. It had to work his way up through strong winds and violent waves. Between splashes of salty water and blinding sunlight . Between walks along the pebbles beach, hunting for fossils (Lyme is known as the jewel of the Jurassic Coast) and the clouds drawn by the milk in a cup of tea. Between the pages of The French Lieutenant's Woman and Persuasion. Every cobblestone, every grain of sand and drop of water has become a piece of the painting that was already so vivid in my imagination.
It's a gray and inclement Monday morning here in Brussels. And I need to keep on dreaming.

L'autunno non cerca proprio di nascondersi, qui a Bruxelles.

E' arrivato il momento di nascondere il thermos riempito di chai tea latte sotto le pieghe della cappa, approfittando del tepore e del profumo inebriante.

E' ora di crumbles alle pere, muffin alla mela-cannella, di cioccolate calde e di té verde alla vaniglia. Da degustare rigorosamente affacciati al davanzale, avvolti da uno scialle di cashmere e circondati da cuscini di piume. Ed esprimere per ogni goccia di pioggia un desiderio (e credetemi, in Belgio le goccie di pioggia si sprecano!).

E' ora di sperimentare con le ricette a base di zucca: dai nostrani gnocchi di zucca al burro, a quella cheesecake o a quel pumpkin spiced latte che strizzano l'occhio alle serie da oltre oceano. Ancora meglio: é il momento prendere la bicicletta, nei brevi sprazzi di sole, e pedalare fino ai boschi e alla campagna. Di correre nei campi con gli stivali di plastica à pois al ginocchio, e di scegliere la propria zucca.

O di passeggiare per mano nel silenzio della foresta di Soignes, parlando di tutto e di niente mentre il cestino da picnic si riempie di castagne.

Perfino ora che il tempo e il lavoro cercano prepotenti di prendere il controllo della mia vita non riescono a cancellare l'ombra di un sorriso sul mio volto cosi' flagrantemente stanco. Perché ci sono così tante cose che posso fare con te.

EN. Autumn does not try to hide, here in Brussels.
It's time to hide thermos filled with chai tea latte under the folds of my cape, making the most of the warmth and the heady aroma.
It's time to bake pears crumbles, apple-cinnamon muffins, it's time time for hot chocolates and vanilla green tea . To be enjoyed by the window sill, wrapped in a cashmere shawl and surrounded by feathery pillows. And to make a wish for every raindrop falling (and believe me, in Belgium we have plenty of those!).
It's time to experiment with pumpkin recipes: from pumpkin gnocchi with butter, to that pumpkin cheesecake or that pumpkin spiced latte seen in TV series from overseas. Even better, it's time to take the bike out during the brief glimpses of sun, and ride up to the woods and the countryside. To run in the fields with polka-dot plastic boots to the knee, and to choose our own pumpkins.

Or to walk hand in hand, in the silence of the forest of Soignes, talking about anything and everything while the picnic basket gets filled with chestnuts. Even now that both time and my job are bullying me around, trying to take control of my life, I cannot seem to be able to wipe off the shadow of a smile on my face, so blatantly tired. There are just so many things I can do, with you.

EN. There are people in the world, too sensitive for their own good. Whose whole being is often shaken from top to bottom, discombobulated, as the few and pale cherry blossoms in the violent storms that are hitting Belgium, victim of a winter that still does not want to leave. And what remains of these flowers is nothing but a handful of petals scattered on the lawn. Useless and empty, only able to elicit sadness in the observer, aware of what these pale remnants, the ruins of fallen glories, once were or could have been.
Defy the rain, and the violent gusts of wind, if you feel your soul is much closer to that of a cherry blossom than you would have wanted to, or that you would have thought.
Sooner or later, after the uncertainties of spring, summer comes.

IT. Ci sono persone, al mondo, troppo sensibili per il loro bene. Il cui intero essere spesso viene scosso da cima a fondo, scombussolato, come i pochi e pallidi fiori di ciliegio nei violenti temporali che stanno colpendo il Belgio, vittima di un inverno che ancora non vuole andarsene. E quel che resta, di questi fiori, non é che una manciata di petali sparsi su un prato. Inutili e vuoti, capaci solo di suscitare tristezza nell'osservatore, conscio di cio' che quei pallidi rimasugli, quelle vestigia di fasti ormai decaduti sono stati o avrebbero potuto essere.

Sfidate quella pioggia, e le violente folate di vento, se sentite che la vostra anima é più vicina a quella di un ciliegio di quello che vorreste, o che avreste pensato.

Prima o poi, dopo le incertezze della primavera, arriverà l'estate.
