Delicious autumn, George Eliot ♥ Primark Cape and Zara wedges

"Delicious autumn!
My very soul is wedded to it,
and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns. "

George Eliot

EN. Autumn does not try to hide, here in Brussels.
It's time to hide thermos filled with chai tea latte under the folds of my cape, making the most of the warmth and the heady aroma.
It's time to bake pears crumbles, apple-cinnamon muffins, it's time time for hot chocolates and vanilla green tea . To be enjoyed by the window sill, wrapped in a cashmere shawl and surrounded by feathery pillows. And to make a wish for every raindrop falling (and believe me, in Belgium we have plenty of those!).
It's time to experiment with pumpkin recipes: from pumpkin gnocchi with butter, to that pumpkin cheesecake or that pumpkin spiced latte seen in TV series from overseas. Even better, it's time to take the bike out during the brief glimpses of sun, and ride up to the woods and the countryside. To run in the fields with polka-dot plastic boots to the knee, and to choose our own pumpkins.

Or
to walk hand in hand, in the silence of the forest of Soignes, talking about anything and everything while the picnic basket gets filled with chestnuts. Even now that both time and my job are bullying me around, trying to take control of my life, I cannot seem to be able to wipe off the shadow of a smile on my face, so blatantly tired. There are just so many things I can do, with you.

Warm Inside ♥ New Look flower brogues and Zara ribbon pull

EN. Do you ever want to wear something ridiculously out of season? When it's raining, or snowing, like here, don't you ever feel the need to dress according to you and not the weather, mixing angora and tulle, flower prints and thick woolen scarves? Belgian winter is so dark and gray for my Mediterranean standards, and even though this year we were spoiled by a sweet, mild autumn, now cold is here to stay. And so are rain, snow, wind and whatnot. Staying in is the most sensible thing to do. Belgians are very much in the habit of inviting friends at home, for a day, for a dinner, or a whole weekend. To fight off melancholia, and find in friendship and in the company of those you love that warmth capable of making you forget just how hard the rain is falling. I take advantage of this to make my need for rebellion run free, and wear those flower-print canvas oxfords that I missed so much. Why, with a coup of tea and a few laughs, I am no longer cold.

I was wearing:

Zara pull,

H&M dress worn as skirt,

New Look oxfords,
Ray Ban glasses,
Forever 21 necklace
Essence (white) + Kiko (pink) nail polish.

Dark Blue Primark Cape - Hail, Twilight, Sovereign Of One Peaceful Hour

"Hail Twilight, sovereign of one peaceful hour!
Not dull art Thou as undiscerning Night;
But studious only to remove from sight
Day's mutable distinctions.
--Ancient Power!
Thus did the waters gleam, the mountains lower,
To the rude Briton, when, in wolf-skin vest
Here roving wild, he laid him down to rest
On the bare rock, or through a leafy bower
Looked ere his eyes were closed. By him was seen
The self-same Vision which we now behold;
At thy meek bidding, shadowy Power! brought forth
These mighty barriers, and the gulf between;
The flood, the stars,--a spectacle as old
As the beginning of the heavens and earth!
"
                                          William Wordsworth

EN. The crisp air of the end of November. The night falls suddenly, surprising us during a walk in the woods of Flemish Brabant. A run home, warming up with a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows, with a blanket, and why not, a hot bath. The more I look around, the more I realize that my clothes steal the colors of this fall, as a poetic as a composition of the Lake Poets. My dark blue cape, as dark blue as the sky of five in the afternoon. A warm oversized cardigans in a rusty shade, no, in the shade of dried fern leaves, broken branches and speculoos. Boots borrowed from an elf. Some things of this fall's fashion go straight to my heart.

And from the window of our mezzanine, with the cold scent of the forest and fallen leaves on me, I find myself repeating in a low voice some of my favourite Wordsworth's lines. Getting lost in the city streets like I used to is becoming more and more difficult...

My favourite pull at the moment - Zara 2010-11 collection

"Sometimes at dusk, when you were trying to relax and not think of the general stagnation, the Garbage God would gather a handful of those choked-off morning hopes and dangle them somewhere just out of reach; they would hang in the breeze and make a sound like delicate glass bells, reminding you of something you never quite got hold of, and never would."
Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary

EN.  It's that time of the year again. Autumn is no longer autumn but not yet winter. I defend myself with capes, hand-knitted scarves, a layer of burgundy nail polish and a cat that purrs on my knees. It is the time of year when I lock myself in, in which the bleus d'hiver, those waves of winter melancholy hit me full force. And the cure is always the same: a cup of chai latte, some speculoos, clothing and accessories in light, airy colours, some romantic accessories. And of course waiting for a weekend to spend with Monsieur Quentin
between walks, cookies in the oven, and a film that I love and he hates.
I'm currently (re) reading The Rum Diary, by Hunter S. Thompson. A little in preparation for the film with Johnny Depp, a little to pretend I am where the misty morning in Belgium cannot fend me. It's full of little gems like the quote up there, and it is just waiting for you to open the cover and browse through a few pages to take you away with a warm wind in the Caribbean of the '50s. To let you live without rules. To get you drunk on rum on a patio of a bar selling hamburgers. To comfort you, reassure you and help you discover that the most successful actions are those where your heart is in it.

A piccole dosi, chiaramente.

EN. It is when everything is wrapped in the soft breath of the brisk breeze, when temperatures fall, when the days get shorter and the evening sky is tinged with purple hues that Brussels gives the best of itself. Fiery sunrises that make you dream of a day of pale sunshine, resulting instead in rather damp, gray, rainy days. Even the rain has a special charm in the fall and winter of Brussels. In small doses, of course. But the real people of Brussels know how to enjoy life. They know the value of walking holding hands in the Parc de Bruxelles in the timid rays of afternoon sun. They understand the complicity of sharing a very long scarf, or a very small umbrella. They know the the best places to take shelter on the long rainy afternoons. The girls of Brussels know that going out with a dress on a rainy day can make you feel a rebel (who said you have to dress for the weather?), or that wearing a skirt in a sunny day is a small celebration, a silent thanks to this autmn, the milder and nicer autumn in years. Since I have become a bit a girl of Brussels myself, I have been
initiated to the secret little pleasures of life in Belgium. And I could never do without them, now.

I was wearing:
Armani vintage woolen blazer,
Pull and Bear dress worn as skirt,
Zara pull,
Ray Ban glasses,
Casio watch,
Primark satchel bag.

Inside photos were taken at AM Sweet, my favorite tea room.  4, Rue des Chartreux 1000 Brussels.

So get off your low and let's dance like we used to
